Abstract
Guidance and counseling services in schools have an important role in self- development and the problems-solving of students. One type of services that can be implemented in the school counselor is an individual counseling service. Successful implementation of individual counseling in schools can be influenced by factors derived from quality counselors. Students who will take advantage of individual counseling tend to perceive in advance about the quality of personality and skills of counselors . Students' motivation to attend individual counseling is voluntary and open to be influenced by the perception of counselor. In general, the purpose of this research is to describe students’ perception about personalities of counselor and students’ motivation to be active in the counseling. This research also determines the correlation between students’ perception about personalities of the counselor and students’ motivation to be active in the counseling. This research use quantitative approach by descriptive method. The research conducted to the students of SMA Adabiah Padang in the period of 2011/2012 with the total of the population was 1491 students. Amount of research sample was 316 students and had been chosen by using simple random sampling technique. The instrument that had been used is close questionnaire by Likert Scale model. The research data have been analyzed by using percentage technique and in order to determine of correlation between both of variables had been used statistics parametric that is Pearson Correlation. The results of research that is: (1) respondent performance about the students’ perception to the personalities of counselor is 73.6%, (2) respon dent performance about students’ motivation to be active on the counseling is 70.7% and (3) coefficient of correlation between the students’ perception to personalities of counselor and students’ motivation to be active in the counseling is 0.547. Thereby, it can be concluded that students’ perception about personality of counselor is in the middle and there is significant and positive correlation between the students‘ perception about personalities of counselor and students’ motivation to be active in the counseling.
