Abstract

The thematic learning process in the third grade of SDN 34 Cupak Gunung Talang Kabupaten Solok was not run as it was expected yet. In pre-teaching stage, the teacher had not yet stimulated the students to make use of their schemata. Therefore, the researcher was interested in improving the thematic learning process by applying Multiple Intelligence in the third grade of SDN 34 Cupak Gunung Talang Kabupaten Solok. This research was designed for improving the thematic learning process in the third grade of SDN 34 Cupak Kecamatan Gunung Talang Kabupaten Solok. This was a classroom action research which was conducted in four phases including planning, acting, observing and reflecting. This research was conducted in two cycles from August 27th, 2013 to September 14th, 2013. The data was collected through observation. The effectiveness of the treatment in each cycle was described, interpreted and reflected as the basis for giving treatment in the next cycle. The result of the research revealed that the use of Multiple Intelligence could improve the students’ learning achievement especially by using classically dominant intelligence covering natural, musical and kinesthetic intelligences. The improvement could be seen from the data collected which were the students’ worksheet and their daily tests. From the first cycle to the second one, the students’ average score in Social Science improved from 92 into 99, in Indonesian Language it improved from 83 into 92, and in Mathematics it improved from 54 into 73. Based on theses results, it was concluded that the use of Multiple Intelligence could improve the thematic learning as well as the students’ learning achievement optimally.
