Abstract
Basically, academic achievement (GPA) is influenced by two factors, they are internal factors and external factors. Internal factor include student physiological condition, aptitude, their cognitive ability & intelligence and motivation. While external factors include things that are beyond the students themselves, such as students' perceptions about the profession of kindergarten teacher that they will do after obtaining the results of learning. Every student wants to succeed in learning activities with satisfactory learning result. Based on the initial observations conducted by the researcher toward the students of Early Childhood Teacher Education FIP UNP, their study results are not satisfactory. The researcher suspects that this is caused by many factors including the student's perception about the profession of kindergarten teacher and their learning motivation. This study is aimed to reveal whether the two factors above, namely students' perceptions about the profession of Kindergarten Teacher and learning motivation have contribution to learning outcomes. The method used in this study is the quantitative method, with the type of research expost facto with correlational approach. The approach is applied by using technical analysis of correlation and regression. The hypothesis used in this study are: First, there is a significant contribution of students’ perceptions about the profession of kindergarten teachers towards learning outcome. Second, there is a significant contribution of learning motivation towards learning outcomes. Third, both learning motivation and students' perceptions about the profession of kindergarten teacher contribute towards learning outcomes of Early Childhood Teacher Education FIP UNP. The population of this study includes 143 regular students of 2007, 2008 and 2009 who were listed in the semesters from January to June 2010 majoring in Early Childhood Teacher Education FIP UNP. The researcher uses 36 samples obtained by using random sampling techniques. Instruments used to collect the data is a questionnaire with Likert scale models, and the data are analyzed by using correlation and regression statistical procedures. The results shows that students' perceptions about Kindergarten teacher (X1) which contributes 13.8% towards learning outcomes, learning motivation (X2) which contributes 20.3% towards learning outcomes. Then, those two factors; all together contribute 27.2%. The research finding is “The student’s perception about the kindergarten teacher profession and learning motivation have contribution toward learning outcomes of Early Childhood Teacher Education FIP UNP ”.
