The Role of Women in the Family Economy (Study of Women Broomstick Workers in Nagari Kasang, Padang Pariaman)

This research is motivated by the importance of the role of women in improving the family economy. The purpose of this study was to describe the role of women and the problems faced by women broomstick workers and the efforts made by women broomstick workers to meet family needs. This study uses qualitative research using descriptive methods, because this study seeks to describe the role of women in the family economy. The data collection techniques used were observation, interview and documentation. The research informants were Walinagari Kasang, a broom stick business owner, a broom stick worker, and a broom stick worker husband. The results of this study indicate that women broomstick workers in Nagari Kasang Padang Pariaman have the same position in the economic sector as men, but the problems felt by women broomstick workers in Nagari Kasang are the constraints of the work environment in the form of working hours and working rules not in accordance with the wages received by women broom stick workers and the unstable relationship between fellow stick workers, while the obstacles in the household are the dual roles that women play as housewives and as the backbone of the family and the lack of participation of husbands to help take care of household chores . The efforts made in meeting family needs are managing family finances by making a family priority scale, and establishing good relationships with other family members.
