Abstract
This study originated from the reality on the Department of Civil Engineering which has input (educational background) different students, from Vocational High School (SMK) and High School (SMA). Both groups had the same strengths and weaknesses in certain subjects. To see where the best possible learning outcomes between the two groups, we conducted a comparative descriptive study. Seeing these symptoms, then the problem can be formulated in
this study is how comparisons of learning outcomes between students from vocational high school with students from Education Studies Program Building Engineering Department of Civil Engineering Faculty of Engineering, State
University of Padang. Based on the theory presented, the hypothesis of this study is there is a difference between the learning outcomes of students from vocational
schools with students from high school. This study is a comparative descriptive study, which aims to explain the
date by comparing between the two variables and high school students from SMK. Population were all students of Education Studies Program Building Engineering Department of Civil Engineering FT UNP Regular and Regular Selfforce 2010, the educational background and vocational high school, and in the opinion sampling sulk Suharsimi Arikunto that a population less than 100, then it is better taken all the samples, the sample totaled SMK 55 people and high school
students from 39 people. Date collection in this study used date collection techniques documentation study, in which the entire archive Student Education Program Building Engineering Department of Civil Engineering FT UNP year in
2010 were collected and tabulated. The date obtained were analyzed using two test mean differences (t-test).
From the results of the study shows that there is no difference between students from vocational high school with students from education Program Building Engineering Department of Civil Engineering Faculty of Engineering,
State University of Padang at 0.05 confidence level. The possibility that this was due to a comparison in this study is the IP semester 1 and 2 are dominated by the common courses.
