Abstract

The main purpose of this research is to find out the effect of humor insertion to the emotional intellegence and the relations to learning outcome of students. Despitefully, this research is also meant to lay open how big the difference of contribution of emotional intellegence to the mathematics learning outcome, in connected to the instructional strategy used. The population of this research are students of SMA and MA in Padang city. The sample amount to 83 students for the experimental group and 83 students for the control group, who were selected using random sampling technique. The data of learning outcome obtained through test and data of emotional intellegence collected by questionnaire using "EI Map". The data were analyzed by the analysis of variance technique, Pearson and Partial and Regression Analysis. The result of data analysis indicates that the learning outcome of mathematics of student who were taught through using insertion of humor are higher than the conventional instructional strategy. The contribution of emotional intellegence to students learning outcome who were taught through instructional strategy using insertion of humor are also higher than those who were taught with conventional instructional strategy. Thereby, instructional strategy using insertion of humor is more effective to improve mathematics learning outcome compared to the conventional instructional strategy.
