Abstract
Based on an early field observation on the students learning at Public Junior
High School 19 Grade VIII, Duri Mandau Riau, the researcher notudeziced that
the students achievement tends to be relatively low. This situation may not be
ignored because it’s influence result, which in turn affects the quality of the
graduates.
The purpose of this study was to explain the influence of the cooperative
learning Type STAD and the entry ability toward the students achievement of the
Public Junior High School 19 Grade VIII Duri, either partially or collectively.
To answer the research question, three hypotheses were tested. First, there is a
influence of the cooperative learning Type STAD on the students achievement.
Second, there is a influence of the entry ability on the students achievement. And
third, collectively, there is a influence of the cooperative learning Type STAD,
and the entry ability toward the students achievement. Applying a stratified
proportional random sampling technique, a sample of 35 students were randomly
selected as the research sample from a population of all students in school.
Achievement test was developed to collect data, whose validity and reliability had
been tested.
The result of the data analysis shows that (1) there is a significant influence
of the cooperative learning Type STAD on the students achievement. (2) there is a
significant influence of the entry ability on the students achievement. And (3)
collectively, there is a very significant influence of the cooperative learning Type
STAD and the entry ability toward the students achievement in Mathematics.
The research finding imply that in the effort to improve the students
achievement in Mathematics of Public Junior School 19 Grade VIII Mandau Riau,
the two independent variables, the cooperative learning Type STAD and the entry
ability play important roles, beside other factors which were not include in this
study. It was suggested, further studies are needed to find out other factors which
also contribute toward the students achievement of Public Junior High School 19
Duri, Mandau District.
