Abstract

Writing is needed in teaching and learning process because it can help the students transfer their ideas into written form. Authentic assessment can help the teacher in assessing the students progress in writing. Therefore, this study aims to find out how teachers implement authentic assessment in writing and problems faced by teachers in implementing authentic assessment in writing then solutions of the problems. Researcher used descriptive method. Researcher collected the data through interviews, questionnaires, and documents to answer research questions. Two English teachers who teach class IX 3 and IX 5 was samples of this research. Data collections are interviews, questionnaires, and documents. The findings of this study indicated that, there were 10 types of authentic assessment in writing implemented by the teachers in SMP N 12 Padang are portfolio, writing sample, self assessment, writing summary, performance based assessment, journal, writing prompts, project assessment, peer assessment, integrated language assessment. One of the problems faced by the teacher in implementing of this assessment are about less of time, then teachers need to be given more time check the student's task
