Abstract

This research aims to reveal the contribution of principals’ supervision and teachers' participation in decision making toward teachers’ work satisfaction in SMP Negeri Kecamatan Bayang Kabupaten Pesisir Selatan. The hypotheses proposed in this research were: 1) principals’ supervision had a contribution toward the teachers’ work satisfaction, 2) teachers’ participation in decision making had a contribution toward the teachers' work satisfaction, and 3) principals’ supervision and teachers’ participation in decision-making simultaneously had a contribution toward the teacher work satisfaction in SMP Negeri Kecamatan Bayang Kabupaten Pesisir Selatan In conducting this research, the researcher used quantitative method. The population of this research was 113 people. By using proportional stratified random sampling technique and taking the level of education and years of service into account, 47 were chosen as the sample. The results of the research showed that: (1) principals’ supervision contributed significantly toward the teacher work satisfaction which was about 17,4%, (2) teachers’ participation in decision-making contributed significantly toward the teachers’ work satisfaction which was about 40,5%, and (3) principals’ supervision and teacher participation in decision-making simultaneously contributed significantly toward the teacher work satisfaction which was about 48%. The result of the research implies that teachers’ work satisfaction can be improved by considering the improvement of the principals’ supervision and teachers’ participation in decision-making. However, it is believed that there are many other factors which are likely to contribute toward the work satisfaction of teachers which are not addressed in this research.
