Abstract
The development of paragliding in Padang is not going very well. This study aims to find out the development of paragliding in Padang seen from the trainers’ qualifications, the athlete, facilities and infrastructure, and the organization in Padang, West Sumatera. This research is qualitative with informants including paragliding coaches, management of FASI of Padang branch, and paragliding athletes. Primary ata were collected by observation, interviews, and documentation study, while secondary data were gained from documents, namely those archived by managements and coaches. Other informants were added according to the snowball sampling principle. The findings of this study indicate that: (1) paragliding trainers in Padang have been quite qualified, although their ability needs to be further improved; (2) paragliding athletes are not in the ideal state; (3) facilities and infrastructure for the sports of paragliding in the city of Padang appear to be inadequate in quality and quantity and thus require special attention; (4) the government of Padang has provided quite good support to paragliding sports organization, although there are still work programs that have not been implemented properly. It is suggested to the relevant parties such as coaches, athletes and administrators to be able to pay attention to these four factors so that paragliding in the city of Padang can run according to what is planned.
