Students‟ writing ability at second semester of non-Englisih Department was still low and had not achieved minimum standard of achievement which were caused by several factors such as the limitation of vocabulary, they did not understand about grammatical aspects, difficulty in conveying ideas of writing because the time was not enough, and creativity that should be increased to produce good writing. To overcome those problems, the researcher conducted classroom action research by using picture word inductive model (PWIM). It functions to improve students‟ writing ability of descriptive paragraph and their creativity in writing to be better, and also to find what factors influence writing ability. This research was conducted in two cycles which consisted of five meetings in each cycle. The researcher collected the data through tasks, tests, observation sheets, field notes, and interview. The participants were second semester students of Science of Hadith that comprised 37 students. The researcher was helped by English lecturer as a collaborator. The result from cycle I to cycle II showed that PWIM improved students‟ writing ability of descriptive paragraph and increased their creativity in writing, that could be seen from the activeness and participation of students in the learning process. Besides, the students‟ writing average score also improved in each cycle. At precycle was 49.5, then in test I was 62.34, and the second test was 70, and more than 70% passed in writing descriptive paragraph. While, for students‟ creativity score also had improvement. At precycle stage, the students‟ mean score was 5.2, at test I was 7.1, then at test II was 7.5. The change of this improvement was influenced by some factors; material, media, classroom activities, classroom management, teaching strategy, and lecturer‟s approach. Hence, it could be concluded that the use of PWIM strategy could improve students‟ writing ability in descriptive paragraph and their creativity in writing at second semester of Science of Hadith students in UIN Raden Fatah Palembang.
