Abstract

Hydroxylapatite is name of mineral, while the name of chemistry is pentacalcium hydroxide triphosphate. Hydroxylapatite is a compound that is formed from main element calcium and phosphor, with formula Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2. The material will not cause defensive bodily reaction, and will even establish interactions with the body, and hence are categorized as bioactive materials or surface reactive bioceramics. The main application of surface reactive bioceramics are in the area of ossicular bone replacement prostheses and as coatings for orthopaedic appliances. In this process, formed a chemical bond between tissue and the implant surface. The bonded interface protects the material from further deterioration with time.
