Abstract

This research was motivated by the conduct of a preliminary study by the author at SLB YPPA Autism Padang. This study aims to determine: 1) the steps taken by the teacher in implementing the Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) method at SLB Autism YPPA Padang. 2) implementation of the Applied Behavior Analysis method for autism at Special School Autism YPPA Padang. 3) evaluation of the implementation of the Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) method for children with autism at the Special School of Autism YPPA Padang. This study uses a field research research method (field research) which is presented in a qualitative descriptive manner. Collecting data using the method of observation, interviews and documentation. The results of this study indicate that: 1) the learning step taken by the teacher is to make a children's program, where each child has a program book that is different from other children. 2) In implementing the ABA method, the teacher refers to the children's program book and then carries out learning activities that begin with praying, saying greetings, teaching simple communication used in everyday life, then entering the material. 3) evaluation of the implementation of the ABA method, which is not in accordance with the theory because in theory one teacher handles one child. However, at SLB Autism YPPA Padang there is a teacher who takes care of 3 children. Based on the results of this study, it is hoped that it will become information material for the community, parents of children with special needs, educators and institutions or foundations for children with autism to better understand the needs of children with autism so that they can live properly in society
