Abstract

The process of word formation is a process of creating new words in a language. The main goal of this research is to analyze the word formation processes that occur in computer terminology. Additionally, this study aims to identify the types of word formation, whether they include compounding, acronyms, derivation, clipping, blending, or other processes. Moreover, this research also identifies their functions and analyzes the forms of changes and morphophonemic processes that occur in computer terminology in the PC Mild tabloid. The method used in this research is qualitative descriptive. All data in the form of computer terminology are described based on the methods used in this study. The steps in analyzing the data in this research are: (a) sorting computer terms that involve the process of word formation to avoid misunderstandings, (b) grouping data based on types of word formation according to the theory used, (c) identifying computer terms based on their respective word types using a table, and (d) analyzing data based on type, function, and morphophonemic. From this research, the researcher found 165 computer terms that underwent word formation in English and 43 words in the formation of the Indonesian language. The types of word formation found are; acronym (48), compounding (43), derivation (22), clipping (2), blending (6), coinage (6), backformation (1) and processes that undergo more than one process known as multiple processes (37). In addition, the morphological and morphophonemic processes; affixation (11), dissimilation (10), assimilation (9), changing vowel and consonant (5), reduplication (3), addition (3), and compounding (2).
