Abstract

This research is conducted to since the values in Indonesia children literature and translated children literature are not optimally explored and used in character education for children. The aims of research are to describe five aspects, which are: (1) the values of religious character education in Indonesian Children Literature (ICL) and Translated Children Literature (TCL), (2) the values of self potency character education in ICL and TCL, (3) the values of family character education in ICL and TCL, (4) the values of cultural character education in ICL and TCL, and (5) the values of environment character education in ICL and TCL. This research is a kind of qualitative research and content analysis is employed as the approach. The data of the research are the quotations which contain the values of character education in both of ICL and TCL. There are three main stages which are used to analyze the data, those are: (1) data reduction, (2) data display, and (3) concluding remarks. The results of research focus on five aspects. Firstly, the core values in term of religious character education which are found in ICL (20, 6 %), those are: discipline, have faith and have piety, give thanks, and be sincere, and while in TCL (5.4%), namely faith and piety. Secondly, the values of character education of self-potential in ICL (75.7%), which are: patience, self-control, responsible, disciplined and obedient, trustworthy, empathetic, generous, considerate, forgiving, sportive, introspective, honest and open, friendly, tenacious, persistent, diligent, strong-willed, unyielding, energetic, wise, clever, careful, mature thinking, constructive and creative thinking, brave, affectionate and soft-hearted, saving, respecting time, and positive thinking. The percentage of these values in TCL totally is 88,3 % which encompasses wise, clever, careful, mature thinking, honest and fair, enthusiastic and strong will, discipline, orderly, work hard, think, far ahead , patient, self-control, sportsmanship, introspective, friendly, unpretentious, affectionate, and responsible. Thirdly, the values of character education of family in ICL (1.21%) encompassing: thinking far ahead, compassion, and fair. The percentage of these values in TCL is 0.9%, which are: appreciating health, and time. Fourthly, there are values of cultural education in ICL (1.21%), namely strong will, and TCL (3.6%), those are devotion, perseverance, and decency. Fifthly, it is found the value of environmental education in ICL (1.81%), and TCL (1.81) which have similar indicators, namely maintaining environmental health and the wisdom in exploring natural resource.
