Abstract
This study discusses about the errors of simple past tense made by the students of senior high school 1 Payakumbuh in recount text writing. The research design was descriptive. The sample in this study was 12 students of senior high school 1 Payakumbuh. The instrument used the theory of error analysis especially the theory of surface strategy taxonomy. Based on this research the students made 60 errors. This study also showed the dominant errors made by students them mostly errors in misformation error.
