Abstract

This research aimed to find out the teacher's strategies in teaching English for student with ASD at SMPN 23 inclusive school, the problems that came within, and how did the teacher solve those problems. Based on the experts, there were six strategies that usually applied for teaching ASD students in inclusive classroom; direct instruction, concrete examples, peer support, praise and rewards, differentiated instruction, and assistive technology. The research also aimed to find out whether or not the ASD students engage in the lesson being taught. The research was descriptive research and required some criteria to choose the teacher participant, thus there were one English teacher and one student with ASD that became the subjects of the research. Instruments to collect the data were observation and interview. Technique of data analysis was gained from the result of the observation and interview. Next, those results were classified based on the research questions, interpreted, analyzed, and the research finding was gained. The findings of the research were teacher only apply three strategies in teaching student with ASD, teacher seemed overwhelmed with the difficulties that she faced in the classroom, and the student with ASD did engage in the lesson as long as the teacher consider his behavior, abilities and needs.
