Abstract
Vocabulary mastery plays an important role in learning a foreign language, but students often face difficulties in achieving it without interesting and interactive learning media. This research investigates the use of puzzles created with Puzzle Maker to improve vocabulary mastery among seventh grade students at MTsN 3 Solok Selatan. The study used a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design involving an experimental class and a control class. Both groups took vocabulary tests before and after the treatment. The main finding shows that students who practiced vocabulary using puzzles experienced a significant improvement in their post test scores compared to those who did not. In addition, word search, double puzzle, and hidden message puzzle were useful for training students in recognizing word form and meaning, but not for using the words in context. Only crossword puzzles supported the mastery of all three aspects: form, meaning, and use. These puzzles also made the classroom activities more enjoyable and engaging, encouraging greater student participation. In conclusion, puzzles created with Puzzle Maker can serve as a practical medium to help young learners improve their vocabulary mastery and classroom practice.
