Abstract

This article elaborates the implementation of nationalist character values in elementary school and the model of character values development using insert model, based on research in several elementary schools in Padangcity. This research is inspired by the decrease of nationalist values and the emergence of negative attitudes in community live which can be seen from the lack of politeness, brutal manners, anarchism, obtrusion, and solving problems without legal procedure. This indication happens to all level of professional and educationalbackground. Beside explaining the process of teaching nationalist character values in several elementary schools in Padang City, the article also suggests insert model as a practical and effective model to teach nationalist character values. This model’s practicality and effectivity have been tested in experiment in several elementary schools in the city. The result shows that this model is practical and effective to be conducted in elementary schools.
