Untuk itu diperlukan model pembelajaran yang tepat, yaitu dengan menerapkan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe talking chips. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penerapan model kooperatif tipe talking chips terhadap aktivitas dan hasil belajar siswa pada mata pelajaran IPS di Kelas VIII SMP Negeri 1 Sitiung.Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimen semu. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII. Teknik pengambilan sampelnya adalah purposive sampling. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan lembar pedoman observasi aktivitas dan soal tes objektif. Alat pengumpul data dengan lembar hasil observasi aktivitas dan lembar jawaban. Kemudian data diolah dengan t-test.Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang telah dilakukan, aktivitas siswa yang menerapkan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe talking chips dengan menerapkan pembelajaran konvensional terdapat t hitung = 3,404 > t tabel = 2,009. Data pada hasil belajar siswa yang menerapkan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe talking chips dengan menerapkan pembelajaran konvensional terdapat t hitung = 2,041 > t tabel = 2,009.
