Suatu pembelajaran dikatakan berhasil ketika siswa dapat memahami konsep-konsep yang dipelajari. Materi fotosintesis pada pembelajaran IPA merupakan materi yang memiliki banyak konsep sehingga berpeluang mengalami miskonsepsi. Tafsiran siswa terhadap suatu konsep kadang tidak sesuai dengan konsepsi ilmiah. Keadaan tersebut memungkinkan terjadinya miskonsepsi pada siswa. Miskonsepsi yang terjadi pada siswa, sebelum diperbaiki harus diidentifikasi terlebih dahulu. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengidentifikasi dan mengungkapkan miskonsepsi tentang materi yang dialami oleh siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 1 Sutera. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif yang dilakukan di SMP Negeri 1 Sutera. Populasi penelitian ini adalah 157 peserta didik Kelas VII. Sampel adalah 25% dari 157 anggota populasi, yaitu 40 orang. Penentuan sampel menggunakan teknik simple random sampling. Data yang digunakan adalah data primer yang diperoleh menggunakan tes diagnostik two tier multiple choice dan dianalisis melalui teknik analisis kuantitatif dalam menentukan persentase miskonsepsi peserta didik. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, diperoleh bahwa miskonsepsi tertinggi terdapat pada materi organisme yang dapat melakukan fotosintesis sebesar 87,50%, organ yang berperan dalam fotosintesis 44,50%, tahap-tahap proses fotosintesis 42,50%, percobaan proses fotosintesis 25%, dan faktor yang mempengaruhi fotosintesis 38,12%. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan, bahwa miskonsepsi pada peserta didik Kelas VII SMP Negeri 1 Sutera tentang materi fotosintesis masih kategori rendah.LC Special aspects of educationLC5201 Education extension.
