Penelitian ini tergolong pada studi Korelasional atau Deskriftif Korelasional dengan pendekatan Ex post Facto yang bernuansa kuantitatif. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII di SMP 13 Padang semester juli-desember 2015 yang berjumlah 151 orang. Sampel penelitian ditarik berdasarkan teknik Proporsional Random Sampling dengan proporsi 70 % sehingga ukuran samapel sebesar 107 orang. Teknik pengambilan data menggunakan instrumen terbimbing. Teknik analisis data menggunakan dua metode yakni statistik Deskriptif dan statistik Inferensial. Hasil penelitian meliputi : (1) hasil belajar siswa pada mata pelajaran IPS yang tergolong tuntas sebanyak 59 % dan kemandirian belajar yang tergolong tinggi sebanyak 41 %, (2) terdapat hubungan yang signifikan dan positif antara kemandirian belajar dengan hasil belajar siswa pada mata pelajaran IPS di kelas VIII SMP 13 Padang dengan kontribusi sebesar 38,6%</mods:abstract><mods:classification authority="lcc">G Geography (General)</mods:classification><mods:classification authority="lcc">L Education (General)</mods:classification><mods:originInfo><mods:dateIssued encoding="iso8601">2016-02</mods:dateIssued></mods:originInfo><mods:originInfo><mods:publisher>Universitas Negeri padang;Pdd.
