Proses pembelajaran matematika masih terpusat pada guru dan siswa cenderung pasif menerima pembelajaran. Salah satu alternatif untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar adalah dengan menerapkan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Think Pair Square (TPSq). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah hasil belajar matematika siswa yang pembelajarannya menerapkan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe TPSq lebih baik dari pada hasil belajar matematika siswa dengan pembelajaran konvensional pada siswa kelas VIII SMPN 16 Padang. Jenis penelitian ini adalah quasi-eksperiment, dengan rancangan penelitiannya Static Group Design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII SMPN 16 Padang. Sampel penelitian dipilih secara acak dan terpilih kelas VIII.4 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas VIII.6 sebagai kelas kontrol. Pengumpulan data dilakukan menggunakan tes hasil belajar matematika berbentuk soal uraian, yang kemudian dianalisis mengguanakan uji t. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data, pada taraf nyata � = 0,05 diperoleh Pvalue = 0,002. P-Value < �, artinya tolak �0.
