%X Students’ different characteristics influence their learning behaviors. That is their  difference in mastering its material and preparing to face their exam. Students faced the  problem in their learning skill in group or individually. The researcher has tried to give  the solution for her students, class X SMA Islam As-Shofa to reduce students’ problem  by using group counseling service. It was expected to know students’ understanding of  their learning skill in facing the exam.   The researcher used quantitative research by applying quasi-experiment model. It  means that the subjects were not taken randomly for both experiment group and control  group. The experiment group was given the treatment by using group counseling service,  whereas as the control group was treated generally; to do the pretest and posttest. 20  students from 110 became the research samples. They were divided into two groups for  each ten of experiment and control group.  The researcher analyzed the data by using Wilxoson Signed Ranks Test technique  and Kolmogorov -Smirnov two samples. The first technique of analyzing the data tested  for the first and the second hypothesis. It means that the data was tested on the degree of  freedom 0,05. There were significant differences between students’ understanding of  learning skill of experiment group to face their exam after and before. The result of    Kolmogorov – Smirnov two – sample for the third hypothesis indicated significant  difference for experiment group in facing their test comparing to control group, after  treatment.  Based on the results of hypothesis can be concluded that group counseling service  is effective to improve students’ understanding of learning skill, class X at SMA Islam  As-Shofa Pekanbaru.
