Abstract
An Mw 7.6 earthquake occurred on Wednesday September 30, 2009 at 5:15 p.m., with -0.81 latitude, 99.65 longitude and 71 km depth, the earthquake epicenter was on the Sunda thrust fault. The earthquake struck the west coast of Sumatra island, The tremor also were felt in Palembang and Medan which distance about 500 km from source. A JMA seismic intensity of from 4.3 to 5.4 was estimated by questionnaire method. , the aftershock, an Mw 7.0 earthquake occurred in Kurinci village just several hours after main shock, its epicenter was on Sumatra strike-slip-slip fault.
