DMT-2 is a degenerative disease that is difficult to cure. The prevalence of diabetes in Indonesia ranks seventh in the world. Therefore, the efforts required to prevent DMT-2 with searching for genetic markers. Ridge Count of fingertips can be used as genetic markers with type 2 diabetes. Objective studies link the ridge count as a genetic marker DMT-2. Methods a case control studies with a model of cross-sectional study with 66 DMT-2 and 66 controls. The results of the study the ridge count fingertips type 2 diabetes was 104.85 with SD±30.02, the control 122.06 with SD±29.54. The results of t-test with p <0.05. Total ridge count fingertips right hand type 2 diabetes was 53.3 with ±SD15.4, whereas the control 63.2 with SD±15.9. Number ridge count left hand fingertips type 2 diabetes was 51.6 with SD±15.9, the control of 58.9 with SD±15.5. Anova test results obtained p <0.05. Anova test results of each finger ridge count obtained p <0.05, unless the finger V/the little finger. Thus there is a relationship total ridge count(TRC) of finger prints, the number of ridge count right and left hand as well as the number ridge count of each fingerprint with the Minangkabau ethnic type 2 diabetes patients, except the little finger
