An Analysis of Slang Words Found in Nicky Minaj’s Song.

Abstract
Language is a bridge for people to communicate with one another in society. The writer
chose to concentrate on this topic because of the phenomenon of slang language
use in nearly all musical genres. Slang is a linguistic variant found in various forms
of communication, including song lyrics. Variations or variety of language is the
main topic in socioinguistics studies, so it’s clear that Kridalaksana in Chaer and
Agustina (2010).This study aims to identify the types of slang words in Nicky
Minaj's song lyrics with three title song of Nicky Minaj’s , there are Super freaky
girl”, “plain jane” and “starship. This research was a type of descriptive qualitative
research method "descriptive research is a research method that seeks to
systematically describe the characteristics of objects to be examined properly".
(Sukardi, 2003). This study used Allan and Burridge's (2006) theory of slang words
to analyze the data, and also identifies five types with the inclusion of fresh and
creative types, flippant, imitative, acronym and clipping. The source of data was
obtained from the lyric of song in conducting the study The researcher found 40
slang words in Nicky Minaj's song lyrics. The researcher found 20 slang words with
clipping type (50%), ten slang words with fresh and creative type (25%), one slang
word with flippant type (2.5%), three slang words with imitative types (7.5%), and
six slang words with acronym types (15%). The most dominant type of slang word
in Nicky Minaj's song lyrics is clipping. This research is expected to give better
knowledge about Slang and better understanding
