Abstract

This study aims to analyze translation of swearing words in the movies subtitles Bad Santa. The researcher used Anderson and Trudgill (1990:61) theory for the swear word and Molina & Albert (2005) translation technique used by the translator from English as the source language to Indonesian as the target language. The author tried to exposed the technique used in translating swear words and to figure out the most translation techniques used in Bad Santa movie by focusing on the dialogue contained swear words. The research employed qualitative descriptive method with total sampling technique. There are 232 data containing swear words based on the movie, the writer found five translation techniques applied by the translator in translating swear words and the theory of swear words used are expletive and abusive. The most translation technique used is discursive creation 126, borrowing 6, calque 2, reduction 69, and literal translation 29.
