Abstract

This study discusses "A Multimodal Analysis of Uda and Uni Selection' Poster Advertisement in Pesisir Selatan" which is a poster of a talent search event whose purpose is to promote tourism. The analysis in this study focused on Halliday's (2004) ideational function in analyzing verbal texts and representations by Kress and van Leeuwen (2006) to analyze visual texts and to identify the structure of poster advertisements using Cheong's (2004) theory. The purpose of this study is to represent the meaning of visual and verbal elements, as well as promotional messages in multimodal posters. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method and the data sources are three randomly selected Uda Uni Election posters on the internet. The results of the analysis show that the most commonly used verbal elements are Announcements (50%) and the most dominant visual elements used are Display (37%) and Emblems (37%). The verbal element is often represented by the Relational Process (83%), while the visual element is represented by the Action process and the Reactional process (50%).
