Abstract

This research is Quasi-experimental research. The purpose of this research is to find out the effect of Reading-Based Writing Model on the students’ ability to write Descriptive Text at tenth grade of SMA N 2 Padang. The population of this research was X.E2 until X.E10 tenth grade students of SMA N 2 Padang. The research sample was 36 students of class X.E3 as the experimental class and 36 students of class X.E2 as the control class. The instrument of this research was a writing test, conducted in the post-test. Based on the data analysis by using Independent Sample T-test in SPSS 20 for Windows, the mean of post-test score in the experimental class was 82.6 while the mean of post-test in the control class was 75.6. It can be concluded that the students taught by using Reading-Based Writing Model have better writing ability of Descriptive Text than students taught by using conventional teaching. The significance of the test is 0.000 which is lower than the significance level of 0.05.
