Abstract

Questioning has a significant impact on the learning process, especially on reading comprehension. Appropriate questions are needed to help them achieving critical thinking about the material they are learning. The populations of the study were all of English teacher from total of 32 SMP Negeri in KabupatenDharmasraya. 14 teachers from 5 schools were taken as sample. This study was aimed to investigate which category used the most by the teacher from SMP NegeriKabupatenDharmasraya in reading comprehension questions. The data were collected by document collection consist of questions from daily exams, MID test, and Final Semester test and stimulated recall interviews with the teachers. From data analysis was found that 292 from 316 questions that are 92.4% LOTS questions were the most constructed. From the data, it was found those teachers sometimes confused to differentiate between the question categories. It could be from lack of intensive course worsen by pandemic and also consider the students ability to solve higher level questions. The finding suggested that the teacher could balance the use of questions type in creating reading questions and policyholder should give more intensive and meaningful workshop on constructing HOTS questions.
