Abstract

This study was descriptive research which aimed to, 1) find out distribution of questions for learning within cognitive levels in SMP Negeri 15 Padang, 2) find out distribution of questions for examination within cognitive levels in SMP Negeri 15, and 3) find out the comparison of LOTS and HOTS questions proposed for learning and examination in SMP Negeri 15 Padang. The data were derived from recordings of teaching processes and examination questions. The questions from the recordings and examination were analyzed and classified based on cognitive levels of Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy by Anderson and Krathwohl (2001). The informants of the research are 3 English Teachers who taught in grade VII, VIII, IX. The results of the study show there are significant imbalances between LOTS and HOTS proportions in questions used for learning and examination. Specifically, this research found Remembering (C1), Understanding (C2) dominated the distribution of questions for learning and examination in SMP Negeri 15 Padang. In short, it can be stated that the percentage of LOTS-based questions higher than HOTS-based questions used for learning and examination
