Abstract
This study aimed to find out the types of flouting maxims and also the reasons for flouting maxims in the movie of Hansel and Gretel the witch hunter. This research was conducted by the descriptive qualitative method. The data has taken from the conversation of Hansel and Gretel the witch hunter movie. Hansel and Gretel the witch hunter movie has chosen as the source of data. The data revealed 39 conversations. And then, the dominant flouting maxim was occurred by the Flouting Maxim of Relation. The occurrence was 15 times (38, 46%). Then, the lowest frequency was occurred by Flouting Maxim of Quality. The occurrence was 3 times (7, 69%). In addition, the reason for flouting maxim has occurred in Hansel and Gretel the witch hunter movie. The dominant frequency was Avoiding the Discussion. The occurrence was 10 times (25, 64%). And also, the lowest occurrence was Misleading Counterparts and Pleasing the Interlocutor. The frequency was 1 time (2, 56%).
