Abstract

The clarification regarding the disinformation of the Job Creation Law was delivered by Joko Widodo at October 9th 2020. This present study tackles the power domination within the speech. Using the CDA three dimension model of Fairclough, the aim of this study is to find out the power domination strategy displayed in the speech and how power domination implies in the sociocultural practice of the speech. Systemic Functional Linguistics was used to provide linguistic tools for the textual dimension analysis. This study used descriptive qualitative method. The data in this study are utterances found in Jokowi‘s speech text as the source of data. This study revealed that there was power domination in the speech. The textual dimension analysis and discursive analysis showed Jokowi‘s language strategy that tend to give more proportion for Job Creation Law with positive statements, whereas for the society he tend to give negative statements. From the sociocultural analysis of the speech text, there implied his dominant power which is indicated by some wrong clarifications in order to calm the community and achieve his goals
