Abstract

The management of natural resources in Indonesia is dominated by the big corporations with their strong capital. They have power to exploit forest, land, mining, and sea based on the concession that they have got from the government. While in the other side the local society in which their lives depend on those natural resources over generation, even before this country was founded, live in poor condition as the effect of unfairness of the distribution of the natural resources. Within decades, the Indonesian government supported the economic growth by destroying the environment and the life of the local society which in principle should be sustainable. The economic policy of Indonesian government in allocating and managing the natural resources tend to take sides to the importance of the corporations, that in turn it has badly contributed to the ecological damage and crush. The emergence of sustainable development was only to stop the conflict between the economic growth and the nature conservation. The values and holistic view that have ever existed as the local wisdom are needed to be applied for the sustainability of the natural resources profit that should be maintained not only for today’s generation but also for the next generations. Based on that reason the local wisdom needs to be recovered and approved as a part of the government policy instruments in managing the sustainable natural resources.
