Abstract

The 2013 curriculum requires students to have thinking skills, one of which is Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). To achieve this, teachers must practice using strategies to train students to think in higher order. One strategy to train students' higher order thinking skills is to apply HOTS questions in the learning evaluation. Through evaluation the teacher can determine the level of students' skills in higher-order thinking. Preliminary observations show that the Physics exam questions used in Senior High School (SHS) in Lima Puluh Kota District still vary because they are made by each teacher. This exam question has also not been identified whether it already contains HOTS in it. Therefore, a study was conducted on the analysis of the availability of HOTS on physics questions at SHS in Lima Puluh Kota District. This research is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The population of the data in this study was all midterm and semester exam questions used in Lima Puluh Kota District. The sample in this study was sixty midterm and semester exam questions from six high schools in Lima Puluh Kota District. Sampling for schools was carried out using the Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling technique. The research data was taken using the instrument of analysis of the questions presented and the technique of collecting data through the study of documentation. Based on the analysis that has been done, it is found that the average number of HOTS questions in the midterm and semester exams is only one question. Most questions were found in the XI semester 2-semester exam questions of SHS 1 Suliki and the midterm exam questions for grade XI semester 1 SHS 1 Harau as many as 3 questions. The percentage of HOTS availability on the questions for each skill is as follows. Skills in transferring one concept to another 19.98%, Skills in processing and applying information 40.50%, Skills in finding connections from different kinds of information 32.23%, Skills in using the information to solve problems 36.67%, Skills in analyzing ideas and information critically 8 .10% of the overall skills to process and apply the information which has the highest percentage. Based on these data, it can be concluded that the percentage of availability of HOTS in physics questions for senior high schools throughout the Lima Puluh Kota District is still low, with the category of less available.
