Abstract

This research aimed at finding the types of Javanese swear words used by men and women and the similarities and differences of Javanese swear words used by men and women in Air Manjuto community. The type of this research was descriptive qualitative method. The data were Javanese swearwords used by the informants. The informants of this research were Javanese native speakers. The researcher found eight types of swearing words used by men in Air Manjuto. They were parts of body, occupation, condition or situation, terms of animal, kinship, activity, spirit term and object (material). Meanwhile, there were five types of Javanese swear words used by women. They were activity, condition or situation, kinship, term of animal and part of body. The situation, relationship between the participants, social environment and background of experience become the main reasons they produce swear words in their daily conversation.
