Abstract

This research was initiated by the learning process of vocational skills that were less attractive, such as culinary skills, fashion, workshop, and woodworking which were applied in schools that were taught using the demonstration method, so that deaf students were bored in learning. In this position, the researcher provides an alternative by using innovation in the form of a Project-Based Learning approach to support the learning process of students' vocational skills by making pomade. Researchers used an experimental method in the form of a pre-experimental design with the type of one group pretest-posttest design with a sample of five deaf students. Abilities that were assessed pretest and posttest were processed and compared using the Mann Whitney test. The results of this study indicate the ability of deaf students to make pomades after being analyzed by looking at the average at the pretest and posttest. The data is processed to be more scientific using the Mann Whitney test. Obtained Uhit = 2.5 and Utab = 2 with n = 5 at a significant level of 95% and a = 0.5. The alternative hypothesis is accepted because of Uhit> Utab. So it is proven that the project-based learning approach is effective in increasing the ability to create pomades for deaf students in class VIII at SLBN 2 Padang. Suggestions in this study are that teachers and deaf students in SLBN 2 Padang can use project-based learning to improve the ability to make pomades for other students.
