Abstract

This study started from a preliminary study on the implementation of Resources and Information Service courses in giving knowledge to students as a prospective referral service librarian which is the main service in the library. Results of initial interviews with respondents indicated that there were shortfalls time that made the practical material of mastery of the purpose and scope, grouping, and consulting in retrieval reference books could not be implemented. This study is aimed to: (1) develop the prototype of expert system which fit to the validity and practicality as a learning medium in the class of information service sources, mainly in the topic of coping the purpose and scope of reference books in the connectivism learning environment, (2) evaluate the effectivity of the system toward students‘ capability improvement in the coping and in reference interviews. This research and development study was conducted with 8 experts to measure the validity of the product. The practicality of the product was analyzed through self-evaluation, one-to-one evaluation to alumnus of Program Studi Informasi Perpustakaan dan Kearsipan (PS-IPK), one-to-one evaluation to 4 lectures, small group evaluation to 7 students, and field test to 37 students. The effectivity of the product was analyzed after one of true experimental design that is the Posttest-Only Control Design has been done to 105 students. Data was gathered by non-directed or inguided interviews, interviews, questionaires, and test. The validity of the data gathering instruments have been inspected and reviewed by 2 validators, except one of those because it is a standardized checklist. It is reveal that the medium as the product of this study has the validity and practicality above of 80% on average. It is also known that the medium has the effectivity when it made the scores of the students who never and ever follow the information service sources class, statistically, have no significant difference. It is concluded that the medium can be involved in information service sources subject matter.
