Abstract

Mathematics communication is the ability to affirm and interpret mathematical ideas whether in written, spoken or graphic forms. Having good mathematics communication ability, the students would be easier to learn the materials. The mathematics communication ability of the students, however, was still low in which they got difficulties to deliver ideas or reasons and were unable to accomplish story items. To diminish this problem, guided inquiry learning was applied. In order to support the process, guided inquiry based instructional materials were developed. The aim of this research was to produce guided inquiry based instructional materials which were valid, practical and effective. This was a developmental research which applied Plomp model. This model consisted of three phases; preliminary research phase, development and prototyping phase and assessment phase. Preliminary research phase consisted of analysis of needs, analysis of curiculum, analysis of mathemtic conceps, and anlysis of students. The instructional material developed were in the form of Student Worksheet
