Abstract

This paper presents some considerations on repair methods using bio-based materials comprising yeast, glucose or sucrose and calcium acetate mixed in Tris buffer solution. The investigation revealed that calcium carbonate can precipitate as crystals within 24 hours depending on the concentrations of these materials used in the mixture and pH levels. The results suggested that reaction rate at early stages e.g. 6 hours later and resulting precipitates up to 24 hours after mixing may have a significant effect on the effectiveness of sealing cracks in concrete.
