Abstract

Total fertility rate of Sumatera Barat Province is higher than national average but the rate of population growth is lower than national rate. This phenomenon can be explained by the the mortality rate especially infant mortality rate that much higher than national average. The purpose of this study is to described and compared infant mortality rate to standard of Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) for the year of 2015, and then identified influencing factors of infant mortality specified at city and regency administrative level. This study shows that infant and maternal mortality rate of Sumatera Barat Province is higher than MDGs target. Looking at sub region, its only Bukittinggi city that has infant and maternal mortality rate lower than MDGs target. Regions of Sijunjung, Padang, Padang Panjang, and Pariaman have higher infant mortality rate but lower maternal mortality rate. Meanwhile other regions higher both. Influencing factors of infant mortality rate can be identified such as early marriage, availability of clean water, midwife birth ratio, and regional domestic product.
